Honky Tonk Edition — Outlaws on the River · July 11 weekend.
The weekend we host every July — a river, a tent, the music and the BBQ we line up, and 125 of us who make the drive. The dress code was Outlaws on the River. Cutoffs, bandanas, dancing boots, red lips. Saturday started on the water at high noon, fifty-odd tubes tied off into one drifting raft.
By five the smoke was up: brisket and pulled pork from SmashMeals, smoked by Lew Kizer himself. Friday night belonged to Sal Brooks; Saturday belonged to Dallas Moore, who drove 17 hours to get here.
Everybody went home with something — hats, koozies, stickers, posters, handed out all weekend on the water and around the fire. And we drove home with a notebook full of ideas the crew gave us. That’s what shows up in the shop next.
